Air.

Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the ambient air temperature outside converting it to useful heating water.

Air source heat pumps offer similar out puts to the ground source heat pumps, however, these can be more dependant on the weather conditions. Air source heat pumps also require a buffer tank to allow for unit protection. This is another excellent option for a bi-valent into an existing system or a biomass system as it will heat the majority of the water with the existing source topping up the temperature.
